Practice Areas
Chris has an established practice covering all aspects of intellectual property and IP-related contractual and financial disputes (including FRAND). His clients range from blue chip companies and household brands to SMEs and individuals, spanning a wide range of industries.
After graduating with a 1st in physics from Imperial College, Chris worked as an IT project manager at a major telecommunications company before turning to the law, where his technical background gives him an edge.
As sole counsel Chris has a strong trial practice, and regularly appears in substantive applications, interim hearings, and appeals from the intellectual property office. He is also a popular and effective junior, frequently instructed in major and multi-national litigation.
Chris’ recent technical patent experience covers medical devices (Abbott v Dexcom), manufacturing processes (Heraeus Noblelight v First Light Lamps), oil well technology (Hydra Systems v Titan Torque), electronics (Lufthansa v Astronics, Hand Held Products v Zebra), and pharma (Novartis v Teva).
Recent experience in financial disputes includes the InterDigital v Oppo FRAND trial heard in March 2024, the pregabalin damages inquiry (Warner-Lambert v Dr Reddy’s), and an ongoing account of profits (Lufthansa).
Notable recent trade mark cases have involved signs in foreign script and small scale use in respect of spiritual/holistic therapies. Chris was also involved in a major sports betting database rights case in 2022.
In 2019 Chris was appointed as an ‘expert’ adjudicator in Nominet’s domain name dispute resolution service.
