Catherine Lathrop advises and represents individuals, executives and companies in criminal investigations, regulatory proceedings and litigation involving economic crimes, fraud, corruption-related offenses and other sophisticated white-collar crime matters. Throughout her career, she has participated in some of the most significant economic crime and fraud cases in Chile's recent history, appearing before the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Superior Courts of Justice and the Constitutional Court.

Experience

Catherine has held leading positions in both private practice and the public sector throughout her career. Before founding Lathrop Blanco Abogados in 2015, she was a partner at several prominent Chilean law firms, where she developed extensive experience in criminal litigation, white-collar crime and complex investigations. Earlier, she also served as a Public Criminal Defender, where she gained extensive experience in criminal litigation and courtroom advocacy.

Alongside her legal practice, Catherine has maintained a strong commitment to legal education. She served as Professor of Introduction to Law at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Universidad Andrés Bello from 1998 to 2003, and taught Labour Law as part of the university's Human Resources Diploma Program for Executives between 1999 and 2000.

Personal

Catherine earned her Law Degree from Universidad Andrés Bello in 1993 and subsequently pursued specialized postgraduate studies in Criminal Procedure Reform at Universidad de Chile (2004), Illegally Obtained Evidence at LexisNexis (2005), Economic Criminal Law at Universidad Alberto Hurtado (2006), and Juvenile Criminal Responsibility at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2007). In addition, she completed the Oral Litigation Program offered by the Barreau du Québec (Quebec Bar Association) in 2006, further strengthening her expertise in courtroom advocacy and complex criminal proceedings.

In 2015, she founded Lathrop Blanco Abogados with the vision of building a highly specialized criminal law practice. Since then, she has assembled and mentored a talented team of younger lawyers, transforming the firm into a well-established player in the Chilean legal market.
