Career

Carlos del Razo is a Founding Partner of Del Razo & Rábago, Environmental Consultants, where he leads the firm's legal practice in environmental, regulatory, and sustainability matters. With more than 20 years of experience, he advises companies and infrastructure projects in highly regulated industries, providing strategic counsel on environmental compliance, permitting, environmental impact assessment, administrative enforcement proceedings, and environmental litigation.

His practice focuses on assisting clients throughout the entire lifecycle of complex projects, from regulatory planning and permitting to compliance, inspections, administrative proceedings, and dispute resolution. He has extensive experience advising projects in the energy, infrastructure, mining, tourism, and industrial sectors, helping clients navigate Mexico's evolving environmental and regulatory framework.

Carlos has been consistently recognized by the international legal directories Chambers & Partners, The Legal 500, and Best Lawyers for the quality of his environmental law practice. Among his most significant professional achievements are advising on the environmental impact assessment of one of Latin America's largest wind farms in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, contributing to the successful legal challenge against amendments to the Mexican fuel quality standard (NOM-016-CRE-2016), and serving for more than a decade as a member of Mexico's National Advisory Committee for Environmental and Natural Resources Standardization (COMARNAT), where he participated in the development of environmental regulations and official standards.

He currently serves as Chairman of the Technical Advisory Council of the Mexican Academy of Environmental Impact (AMIA), following his tenure as President of the organization. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Sustainability Commission of the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA), contributing to international discussions on sustainability, environmental governance, and energy transition.

Carlos holds a Law Degree from Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP), a Master's Degree in Environmental Law and Policy from the University of Kent (United Kingdom), and a Specialist Degree in Energy Management from EGADE Business School, including an academic stay at Seoul National University.

He has taught Environmental and Energy Law in several graduate and postgraduate programs, including the Faculty of Law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Universidad Anáhuac, and programs organized by the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation. He is the author of numerous academic publications and frequently participates as a speaker at conferences and specialized forums on environmental law, sustainability, and energy regulation.
