Brett’s broad regulatory and transactional practice includes financial regulatory advice, energy, carbon and commodities trading and derivatives, commodities, carbon and energy structured transactions, financial sanctions, market infrastructure and Fintech, especially in the wholesale financial and commodities markets.

He advises the Legal Committee of EFET (European Federation of Energy Traders), sits on the FIA’s Energy and Emissions and Agricultural Working Groups.

Brett is a member of On-Chain: Reed Smith’s Crypto & Digital Assets Group. He advises on a range of matters including structuring investment products, commodity tokenisation, regulatory licensing and registration.

Brett helps clients to structure and document transactions where regulatory constraints and other requirements are particularly intense or rapidly evolving. He advises on complex commodity derivatives transactions and exchange-traded commodity products (ETPs).

On the regulatory side, Brett advises clients on financial regulation as it affects derivatives and securities markets. He also advises on regulatory capital, market abuse, client money, financial sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption, insurance mediation, financial sector outsourcing and M&A. He has helped establish exchanges and trading facilities.

Brett is part of Reed Smith’s global environmental, social and governance (ESG) practice and has a particular focus on climate change.
