Bennett Spiegel has advised debtors, creditors, creditors' committees, bondholders, trustees, and asset purchasers in complex restructurings and Chapter 11 bankruptcies for more than three decades.

Career

Bennett represented the largest bondholder in the Chapter 11 cases of Stearns Holdings in New York where, after negotiating a restructuring support agreement, bondholders voted unanimously to accept the confirmed plan.

Bennett recently represented the official creditors’ committees in the Chapter 11 cases of Wave Computing, Bruce Elieff, and Kfir Gavrieli. He also represented All American Oil & Gas Company and its affiliates as debtors in confirming their Chapter 11 plan in San Antonio, as well as a large financial institution as a defendant in the Thornburg Mortgage Chapter 11 cases in Baltimore, where he settled claims exceeding US$500 million asserted by the Chapter 11 trustee for less than 5% of the amount asserted after nine years of litigation.

Previously, Bennett represented Relativity Media in its television business Section 363 sale and confirmation of its Chapter 11 reorganization plan, reducing debt by over US$600 million; MF Global creditor plan proponents with over US$1 billion in claims; and Adelphia non-agent secured lenders in dismissal of US$4.3 billion of claims against them.
