Ari Kaplan is principal of Kaplan Law, Canada’s leading law firm dedicated to pension benefits dispute resolution. He is an experienced arbitrator and mediator with expertise in pensions and benefits law and has top rankings in Chambers®, Lexpert® and Best Lawyers®. Kaplan is author of Pension Law (Irwin Law), for which he received the Walter Owen Book Prize for outstanding new contribution to Canadian legal literature. Kaplan has represented clients before superior and appellate courts across Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada. He is a part time professor at University of Ottawa faculty of common law and previously an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto. Kaplan is a founding member of the Family Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario and was the Attorney General’s appointee to the Law Foundation of Ontario. Kaplan has an LL.B and LL.M from Osgoode Hall Law School and is a qualified mediator (Q.Med) through the ADR Institute of Canada. Kaplan is also a certified instructor of mindfulness meditation, a scholar of law and emotion theory, and leads wellness and resilience training for trustees, professionals and communities. His book Toronto Method Mindfulness Handbook: Six Lessons in Embodied and Compassionate Meditation (Friesen 2023), is accredited by the Law Society of Ontario for Professionalism and EDI. He is also pursuing a PhD in Law at Western University. Ari Kaplan was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1999.
