Anne Voigts leads Pillsbury’s Appellate practice and has argued over 70 cases in federal and state appellate courts.
Anne has represented clients before the United States Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court, state and federal appellate courts, and trial courts. In addition to her appellate practice, Anne advises clients on critical motions and partners with trial teams on complex legal issues.
A former Supreme Court and Ninth Circuit clerk and former federal prosecutor, Anne leverages that experience to provide practical advice to her clients in high-stakes cases across a wide variety of issues. Anne has particular experience related to appeals and critical motions in class actions and related to cybersecurity and privacy issues. Anne is CIPP/US-certified. She also regularly advises clients about complex legal issues, including bringing affirmative challenges to novel laws, navigating difficult compliance issues, and responding to regulatory inquiries.
Anne is a member of the Advisory Board to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the Law360 Appellate Editorial Board, and of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. She has also previously served as a member of the California Lawyer’s Association’s Committee on Appellate Courts, a member of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Amicus Briefs, a former chair of the Appellate Lawyer Representatives for the Ninth Circuit, and a former lead editor and contributor to the Representatives’ Practice Guide, found on the Ninth Circuit’s website.
A California-certified appellate specialist, she has taught appellate advocacy at USC Gould School of Law and the Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Center, among others. She regularly speaks on developments in Supreme Court and Ninth Circuit case law, privacy law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act, and effective legal writing, and has participated on panels at Stanford’s Rock Center Directors’ College, the Ingram Inn of Court and the California Lawyers Association, among others.
Anne has an active amicus brief practice and recently received the Human Trafficking Legal Center’s Advocate of the Year award. She is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and appointed to a three-year term on the Northern District of California’s Criminal Justice Act Appellate Panel Selection Committee, as well as its habeas committee. She is also a former president of the Federal Bar Association-Northern District of California Chapter.
