Andrew's trial practice centers on complex patent, trade secret, trademark, and commercial disputes before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), federal district courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
Andrew’s trial practice emphasizes Section 337 investigations at the ITC where he serves as lead counsel and ITC local counsel. Drawing on his vast experience in Section 337 investigations, he regularly advises clients on how best to meet their legal and business goals. He also acts as lead counsel in inter partes review proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Andrew regularly appears on behalf of clients in leading patent venues, including the Eastern District of Texas, Northern District of California, and District of Delaware, handling matters involving a wide array of technologies, including mobile phones and other consumer electronics, medical devices and treatment machines, software, design patents, wind-turbine generators, automotive technologies, semiconductors, image sensors, and pharmaceuticals. His work includes counseling on patent procurement and licensing and providing opinions of counsel on complex intellectual property issues. In 2015, the Legal 500 recognized Mr. Riley for his patent licensing and transactional work.
Andrew is a frequent author and speaker on ITC and patent litigation topics and serves in leadership positions in several bar associations. Starting in 2014, Mr. Riley became an adjunct associate professor at American University Washington College of Law where he continues to teach a course on intellectual property practice at the ITC. Before joining Mei & Mark, Andrew was a partner at a large IP boutique based i DC. Prior to his legal career, he served on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Army.
