Career

Ana Catalina Monge has more than two decades of experience in intellectual property, spanning both public service and private practice.

Earlier in her career, she served as Head of the Patent Office and subsequently as Deputy Director of Costa Rica’s Industrial Property Registry. In these roles, she led the establishment of the country’s patent examination department, assembling and coordinating a multidisciplinary team of professionals responsible for the technical examination of patent applications.

She also participated in the preparation of the Patent Examination Manual developed for use in Central America and the Dominican Republic. Her international intellectual property training includes programmes and seminars held in Switzerland, Hungary, Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama.

Ana Catalina is the author of the Costa Rica chapter of the *Manual for the Handling of Applications for Patents, Designs and Trademarks*, edited by Arnold & Siedsma and published by Kluwer Law International.

Before co-founding MMonivation IP, she headed the Intellectual Property Department of Consortium Legal in Costa Rica for nine years. She now advises domestic and international clients on the protection and management of their intellectual property portfolios, with a particular focus on coordinated regional strategies across Central America and the Caribbean.

She has been consistently recognized as a leading intellectual property practitioner by Chambers Latin America since 2011. Her professional standing has also been acknowledged by The Legal 500, Best Lawyers, Latin Lawyer 250 and Leaders League.
