Alexander Van der Gaag

Alex van der Gaag is a debt finance partner in the London office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. Alex has been instrumental in leading the growth and development of Cleary’s Sponsor Finance Practice and European Private Equity Transactions practice since his move to Cleary in 2024 from another leading leveraged finance practice.

Alex’s practice is focused on representing private equity and other financial sponsors on complex, cross-border and domestic leveraged finance transactions including acquisition financing, leveraged buyout transactions, take private transactions, public and private holdco financings, preference and other hybrid instruments, bank/bond financings, restructurings, portfolio company financing, corporate lending and general banking. Alex acts for a wide range of private equity sponsors, funds, sovereign wealth funds and borrowers on transactions across a variety of different sectors and jurisdictions on financing matters.
