Aimee Mitchell is one of New Zealand's leading private wealth lawyers and heads MinterEllisonRuddWatts' specialist Private Wealth practice. With more than 20 years' experience across New Zealand, England and Wales, and key offshore jurisdictions, she advises HNW individuals, families, family offices and trustee companies on complex trust, succession, wealth structuring and family governance matters, particularly those with cross-border dimensions.
Her practice is centred on the complex structuring and ongoing governance and administration of sophisticated family wealth arrangements. This spans establishment and restructuring of trusts and other wealth structures, wealth preservation, succession and estate planning, family governance, and family office structuring, frequently involving multiple jurisdictions and generations.
Aimee works collaboratively with clients and their advisers, focusing on holistic solutions that are technically sound, commercially sensible and structured to last. This client-centred approach, combined with her breadth of technical expertise, positions her as a go-to adviser for New Zealand’s most complex private wealth engagements.
Since joining MinterEllisonRuddWatts in 2024, Aimee has established and quickly grown a market-leading private wealth practice, significantly enhancing the firm's integrated offering across private wealth, tax and immigration. Her leadership has strengthened the firm's ability to advise domestic and international clients on wealth preservation, business succession, investment migration and family governance matters.
Aimee has extensive expertise advising internationally mobile families, family offices and investors with multi-jurisdictional interests. Her experience includes the establishment and restructuring of trusts and family wealth vehicles, governance frameworks for family enterprises, succession planning for significant family wealth and the implications of changing residency and domicile status. She is also highly regarded for her advice on investment migration and wealth planning matters, including structuring considerations associated with New Zealand's Active Investor Plus (AIP) visa programme.
Beyond her client practice, Aimee is a recognised thought leader and presenter in the private wealth sector. She plays an active role in shaping professional best practice through her leadership positions and professional committee appointments.
