About
7SA is a disputes specialist firm dedicated to international arbitration. Since its launch in September 2017, 7SA’s team has worked on over 80 arbitration with amounts in dispute of up to 1.5 billion Euro, including arbitrations seated in the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and other States with applicable laws in those disputes spanning 14 different civil law and common law jurisdictions, as well as international law.
7SA’s primary focus is arbitration—international and domestic, commercial and investment. Our lawyers serve as counsel, arbitrators, emergency arbitrators, tribunal secretaries, and legal experts in arbitration disputes and have extensive experience with institutional and ad hoc arbitrations, including under the ICC, DIS, ICDR, VIAC, SCC, SCAI, FAI, CAM, WIPO, CEAC, GMAA and UNCITRAL Rules. The firm has represented leading German private equity firms active across Europe and beyond in several proceedings, including in a multi-party multi-contract arbitration seated in New York with a value in dispute of over €37 million. The firm has also represented clients in the private equity sector in parallel arbitration and expert determination proceedings. In energy disputes, 7SA partners sit as arbitrators in large and complex oil, coal and gas arbitration proceedings. In the pharmaceutical sector, 7SA has twice represented one of its clients in mediation proceedings under the Swiss Rules. The firm further assists clients in all phases of an arbitration, including in the recognition stage both before German and Italian courts, with counsel admitted to the Italian bar.
The founding partners of 7SA spent their formative professional years in Paris, the heart of international arbitration. Clients value their familiarity with the best practices in international arbitration, combined with their German law qualifications and experience with other legal systems, including common law jurisdictions. In addition, the firm has insight knowledge of ICC arbitrations and the new 2018 DIS Rules, as one of the firm’s founding partners was both a counsel at the ICC and a member of the DIS Rules drafting committee. This reflects in arbitrator appointments under the ICC and DIS rules and in counsel instructions that require special expertise regarding the applicable institutional rules and procedures.
The arbitration expertise of our multilingual team is grounded in practice and enriched by academic work and continued engagement with arbitral institutions. Members of the firm teach at leading European universities and publish regularly on arbitration and international law. Our ongoing institutional involvement is informed by experience gained by one of our partners during his time as counsel at the International Court of Arbitration, administering more than 850 arbitrations.
7SA's focus on arbitration and its cross-border track record that clients expect from a leading international law firm, combined with the flexibility and efficiency of a boutique practice, make it unique for the German market.
