Overview & History:
Hassans International Law Firm was founded in 1939 by Sir Joshua Hassan. From humble beginnings in a single room in Horse Barrack Lane, the firm emerged in the post war period as a highly-respected legal institution, eventually growing to become the largest firm by far in Gibraltar.

This momentum continues under the firm’s current Senior Partner, James Levy QC CBE, whose tireless work, spanning decades, helped to develop Gibraltar’s banking, insurance, financial services, funds and online gaming sectors.

More recently, the firm has advised the Gibraltar government on DLT and cryptocurrency related matters, with Partners from the firms’ FinTech team helping to draft guidance notes for the Gibraltar’s DLT Regulations of 2018, as well as the world’s very first Code of Conduct for Crypto Funds. The firm has also been heavily involved in assisting the Gibraltar Government and the Regulator shape the upcoming Token Sale Regulations. The firm also advises many of the world’s leading FinTech companies, including eToro, Token Market, CEX, Gemini and Covesting.

Practice Areas:
Hassans is a large, multi-practice firm with a long history of working in harmony with the Gibraltar government to incubate and grow new industries and revenue sources. Throughout the 1980s and 90s the firm’s Senior Partner, James Levy QC CBE, took the lead on EU harmonisation to ensure Gibraltar was fully in line with European laws and directives, while also ensuring it also became the first such British offshore territory to enact specific anti-money-laundering legislation.

This proactive, regulatory approach has also been instrumental in helping to make Gibraltar the foremost jurisdiction in online gaming, as well as laying the groundwork for Gibraltar’s current FinTech boom.

As one of the architects of this success, Hassans acts as trusted advisor to Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar. Partners and FinTech team co-chairs Anthony Provasoli and Vikram Nagrani assisted in providing the guidance notes for Gibraltar’s ground-breaking DLT Regulations, which came into effect in January 2018. They have also assisted in the creation of jurisdiction’s Token Sale Regulations which are soon to be enacted into law.

The firm also advises various prominent FinTech companies, on a range of matters related to crypto, blockchain and distributed ledger technology applications, including:
