THE FIRM Harbour Family Law, a specialist family law firm, based in Bristol, Portishead and Clevedon, was established in 2013 by Founder & Director Katy Zikking. Nicky Howarth heads up the Bristol office based in Clifton. Katy Zikking heads up the Clevedon and Portishead office.

The specialist firm has now grown to a team of ten, with three offices covering Bristol, Clevedon and Portishead. The firm is currently an all-female team. Each solicitor is a committed, specialist family lawyer having specialised in family law since qualification. Harbour Family Law pride themselves on a culture of support and wellbeing for staff and clients. The firm has invested in new premises in Clifton, Bristol and Clevedon with the design focused on an uplifting work space and client experience.

The firm’s core values embrace modern, innovative IT solutions for the benefit of clients, and an emotionally intelligent and clear approach to the delivery of family law advice.

The firm have long-standing relationships with expert Counsel in family law, pensions advisors, financial advisors and forensic accountants, with whom they collaborate in their client’s best interests. Further support for clients is offered through contacts with Counsellors, Family Therapists and coaches. Two of the solicitors are Collaboratively trained and offer a non-court based resolution to financial settlements on divorce. This network is supported also by the firm’s membership of the Collaborative Pod, where multidisciplinary experts work together to support a resolution to divorce.

MAIN AREAS OF PRACTICE The team of lawyers are all experts in family law, covering divorce, financial remedy proceedings, cohabitation disputes, cohabitation agreements, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, Trust of Land Act claims, Schedule 1 Children Act claims, Family Law Act proceedings and Children Act proceedings. Katy Zikking and Ros White undertake Collaborative practice (round-table, non-court based resolution) to resolve financial agreements on divorce.

Every practitioner is a member of Resolution, the national organisation of family lawyers. Nicky Howarth is the current Chair of Bristol Resolution and a former member of Resolutions National Committe for property, pensions and financial provision. Fiona Greener, the former Chair of Bristol Resolution for over 9 years, is a continuing committee member of Bristol Resolution and in addition is a legal consultant to Relate Avon, the marriage guidance counselling service. She is also a former member of Resolutions Standards Committee which works to put the Code of Practice at the heart of family law practice. Hannah Holdaway, Associate, is currently completing a Phd focusing on the impact of emotional support during the divorce process. Hannah is also a Relate Avon Trustee.

The team and clients of the firm are ably supported by experienced, committed secretarial, paralegal and Accounts specialists.
