During a period (2009-2012) of public service as the Attorney-General of The Bahamas, John led a comprehensive overhaul and modernization of the laws of The Bahamas relating to corporate insolvency. The team is regularly involved in the periodic review of insolvency laws within the jurisdiction. Our work includes: Acting in the solvent voluntary liquidation for the Bahamian subsidiaries of Switzerland’s largest bank; Acting for the petitioner in the court ordered winding up of the stem cell medical clinic; Advising court appointed liquidator of a group of investment funds; Advising court appointed liquidators of a private bank and trust company; Advising petitioners for the liquidation of private banks, funds, and trading concerns; Advising several mutual funds in winding up proceedings brought by minority shareholders; Acting for petitioning creditor in insolvency proceedings; Representing former directors in proceedings brought by liquidators of a major international computer company; Examining former directors in proceedings brought by liquidators; and Advising regulators respecting the liquidation of non-compliant regulated entities.

Securities related activity in or from The Bahamas is regulated by the Securities Industry Act, Segregated Accounts Companies Act, the Investment Funds Act, the Exempted Limited Partnerships Act and the Investment Condominium Act (“ICON”). Prominent securities attorneys Pamela Klonaris and Sofia Papageorge, lead the securities law practice.
