The Firm:
Beck Greener LLP, based in London, UK and Alicante, Spain is one of the leading intellectual property (IP) firms in Europe. The firm is proud to be one of the oldest IP firms in the world, helping to protect inventions, trade marks, designs and other intellectual property for over 150 years. Beck Greener has a reputation for offering excellent service from highly experienced attorneys, with an impressive record of success before the European Patent Office (EPO), the UK Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EU IPO), as well as before the UK courts.

Principal Areas Of Work:
Beck Greener handles the full range of contentious and non-contentious IP matters. This includes patents, trade marks, copyright, registered designs and unregistered designs.

Patents: The firm’s patent practice is divided into three groups:
■ Chemistry & Pharma
■ Life Sciences
■ Electronics, Physics & Engineering
The patent groups each advise on inventions, patent applications and patents across all technical fields. The attorneys handle all aspects of patent applications at the UK IPO, the EPO and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The firm also arranges filings in all major jurisdictions globally, and oversees the prosecution of patent applications to grant. The attorneys act in patent infringement negotiations and in litigation. Clients benefit from particular strengths in chemistry and on the electronics and hi-tech side, including computer hardware and software.

Trade Marks: Providing the full range of services relating to registered and unregistered trade marks, the trade marks department files and prosecutes applications to register trade marks in the UK, Europe and globally. The attorneys work with many global brands and have experience of advising in a wide variety of business sectors including professional services, publishing, cosmetic, luxury goods, food and drink, domestic appliances, telecoms and life sciences. The department has a notable reputation in the entertainment industry. Several of the firm’s attorneys have expertise in copyright. Beck Greener is one of the largest filers of new trade mark applications in the UK.

Designs: The firm has significant expertise in the area of filing, prosecution and enforcement of registered designs. Acting for some large companies in design-sensitive areas, Beck Greener has an experienced team focussing particularly on the filing of Community and UK registered design applications. Clients have enjoyed recent successes relating to enforcement of their registered and unregistered design rights, avoiding the need for litigation whilst ensuring their rights are respected.

IP Disputes: The skills and reputation of the experienced IP litigators bring a range of commercial benefits for clients. Beck Greener is well placed to advise on trade mark and domain name disputes, in particular. The team is also skilled at dealing with the commercial aspects of trade marks, including licensing, assignments, and drafting and negotiating settlement agreements. The firm also acts in contentious proceedings relating to design and copyright matters in the UK and beyond. Beck Greener’s trade mark partners appear in the Top Ten list of trade mark attorneys and solicitors by appearance at hearings before the UK IPO.

Clients: Beck Greener has an enviable, longstanding client following including companies listed on the S&P 500, FTSE 100 and Fortune 500. Clients include global corporates, SMEs, start-ups, individual inventors and business owners across a wide range of sectors. Beck Greener’s cross-border strength is demonstrated through its work in the US (chemicals, computing and industrial corporations); Europe (life sciences, electronics and consumer goods); as well as Asia (printing and electronics).

International:
Beck Greener files and prosecutes applications to register patents and trade marks at the UK IPO, EUIPO, Irish Patent Office and the WIPO. Further, using firms of foreign attorneys, Beck Greener files and prosecutes cases abroad. The firm’s main office is based in London. The firm also has an office in Alicante, Spain, to ensure that it can continue to provide its full range of services before the EUIPO in the event of the UK leaving the European Union.
