AEM Abogados (www.aem.cl) is a Chilean law firm established in 1995, with over 30 years of experience. It is recognised for providing strategic legal advice in Labour Law, Intellectual Property, Corporate/M&A, and Litigation/Arbitration.

The firm is made up of three partners, two directors, and ten highly qualified associate lawyers, who combine strategic vision, technical excellence, and practical experience to deliver tailored, innovative, and effective legal solutions. Its legal work model—based on collaboration, trust, and commitment—enables it to successfully tackle complex legal challenges and strengthen clients’ positions in highly competitive environments.

Legal Practice Areas

Labour Law

This area is one of the firm’s strategic pillars, with a well-established track record in providing comprehensive advice to national and international companies across a range of economic sectors.

AEM offers a preventive, strategic, and highly personalised approach, enabling clients to anticipate risks and strengthen their positions in an ever-changing regulatory and social landscape.

The team specialises in:

    • Designing and implementing efficient employment structures, including contracts, internal policies, regulations, incentive schemes, and compensation models.
    • Collective bargaining, both in unionised and non-unionised contexts, including high-level negotiations and complex processes involving multiple stakeholders.
    • Labour audits and internal compliance, with a focus on early detection of contingencies, prevention of administrative infringements, and fostering organisational culture.
    • Internal investigations concerning complaints of harassment, discrimination, or violations of fundamental rights, in accordance with the Karin Law, Sexual Harassment Law, and occupational safety regulations.
    • Strategic defence in complex labour litigation, including cases of anti-union practices, fundamental rights violations, collective dismissals, or employment protection claims.
    • Representation in administrative proceedings before the Labour Directorate, Office of the Comptroller General, and the Superintendency of Social Security.

The firm has also earned a strong reputation for its practical application of the Karin Law, developing training programs, internal protocols, investigations, and corrective interventions for companies aiming to ensure safe, harassment-free work environments. It should be noted, the labour team works closely with the firm’s litigation, corporate, and intellectual property teams, ensuring a multidisciplinary and high-standard approach tailored to each client’s specific needs.

Intellectual Property

The firm protects key intangible assets—such as trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, and digital assets—and leads advisory work on the implementation of the new Personal Data Protection Law, positioning itself as a reference in this area.

Corporate and M&A

AEM advises domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganisations, corporate governance, and complex commercial transactions. It supports clients throughout the process—from due diligence to execution—integrating regulatory, financial, and tax perspectives.

Litigation and Arbitration

The firm specialises in strategic resolution of complex disputes, offering comprehensive representation to national and international clients in civil, commercial, labour, and administrative litigation, as well as in national and international arbitration proceedings. It also advises on contractual, commercial, and corporate disputes before the Arbitration and Mediation Centre of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CAM Santiago) and other specialised forums, including international procedures governed by various arbitration rules.

The area works collaboratively with the labour, corporate, and intellectual property teams, providing comprehensive legal advice tailored to the nature and complexity of each case.

AEM Abogados has a solid and diverse client portfolio, comprising national and international companies in sectors such as services, construction, technology, retail, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and mining, among others.

As part of its partners' commitment to the community, AEM promotes an informed society by addressing contemporary legal issues in its areas of expertise through the participation of its partners and lawyers in national and local media—both traditional and digital—via interviews and opinion columns. The firm’s experts are regularly consulted or invited to speak at specialised forums and legal discussion panels.

Furthermore, the firm is a member of various international associations and works with correspondent firms in Latin America, North America, Europe, and Asia, enabling it to provide comprehensive and personalised support for clients’ intellectual property needs abroad. It collaborates with expert law firms in countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, the United States, Ecuador, and Spain.

AEM regularly takes part in dialogue and reflection forums organised by institutions and stakeholders relevant to its legal practice. In recent years, it has formed a partnership with the Chilean-Swedish Chamber of Commerce to strengthen business relations between Chile and Europe, offering high-quality, comprehensive legal solutions in its key practice areas.

The firm also maintains permanent membership in professional and sector-specific organisations, including international intellectual property associations (ASIPI, AIPPI, ACHIPI, INTA, among others), the Chilean Bar Association, the Chilean Society of Labour and Social Security Law, and the Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS).

With a strong focus on innovation, excellence, and community engagement, AEM fosters legal discourse through its involvement in media, specialist forums, and discussion platforms.

AEM Abogados combines in-depth knowledge of the local context with a global and strategic outlook, positioning itself as a leading provider of high-impact legal solutions in its core practice areas within the dynamic Chilean legal market.
