Main Areas of Practice:

General Expertise in Employment Law & Related judicial Fields:

The firm represents vast knowledge and experience in providing assistance in all aspects of employment law; from furloughing, major downsizings and transfer of undertakings, whistleblowing, GDPR, discrimination, issues related to collective bargaining agreements, industrial actions and more. The firm’s strength is that it provides assistance to a wide variety of clients: Norwegian and foreign businesses, private and public sector clients, government owned corporations, government agencies, municipalities and other public bodies, employer organisations and labour unions, and even employees and senior management and executives. Representing a variety of clients provides the firm’s lawyers a unique insight and perspective of the employment law field.

Negotiation & Litigation:

As a consequence of a high level of work protection in Norway, Helmr experience an increasing number of claims from employees, providing the firm an extensive competence representing and counselling in litigation. Provided the monetary- and non-monetary costs of going to court, it aims to solve disputes with negotiation for clients. The firm’s day- to – day counselling provides its lawyers a deep knowledge in negotiation of complex and contentious matters in vast landscape of employment law issues. Representing both parties in employment matters, the main goal in all the firm’s counselling is to achieve reasonable solutions for clients.

Lecturing & Publishing:

Helmr also has a unique position as the cooperating partner to ‘HR Norge’ - the country’s largest HR and management professional network, consisting of members from both the private and public sectors. Over the last year, Helmr has contributed with employment law training programs and as speakers on several of their major conferences with topics related to employment law in private and public sector. In addition, the firm serves HR Norge’s service line and incoming questions from the members on a daily basis, as well as producing articles for their newsletter. Helmr engage in publishing articles and books about employment law. In June 2020 Helmr published the fifth edition of ‘Arbeidslivets spilleregler’ through Universitetsforlaget (the main publisher of academic work). This is an extensive and well recognised textbook about employment law - framework and rules - especially aimed at the employment law professionals and HR practitioners. The book is held in high regard amongst legal professionals and HR practitioners.
