About

Provided by Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP

Sheppard attorneys have handled energy regulatory and project development matters in California for more than 35 years. The team is known for its work before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), California Energy Commission (CEC), and California Independent System Operator (CAISO).This experience covers the regulation of electricity, natural gas, and water service, including the representation of electric public utilities and transmission-only utilities. Through its direct involvement in these complex and highly regulated industries, the team advises clients on the latest developments and helps them prepare for changes in an evolving regulatory landscape.

The team’s CEC experience includes obtaining certification for thermal power plants and approval for project modifications and transfers of ownership and assisting with RPS certification and verification requirements for renewable projects (including those with co-located or integrated storage). The team also represents clients in the CAISO interconnection process and stakeholder proceedings regarding changes to the CAISO’s tariff and business practice manuals.

We integrate our extensive CPUC, CEC, and CAISO expertise into representing clients in all types of power purchase and energy storage agreements. Our energy lawyers possess a unique combination of regulatory, technical, legal, and commercial knowledge that adds significant value in these transactions.
