Ashima Obhan heads the TMT: Media and Entertainment practice at the Firm which has been ranked by Chambers and Partners in Band 1.
Publishing: The Firm advises clients on rights in book titles and translated works, product placement, author contracts, film and tv options, licensing arrangements, foreign investment norms, regulatory compliance, publication of maps, unauthorized biographies, and conducting pre-publication legal reviews of manuscripts, including in Hindi. We also represent clients in matters where pre and post publication injunctions have been sought.
News Broadcasters: The Firm advises on compliance and regulations that apply to news entities in India, including foreign investment matters, organisational structures and conducting pre-publication reviews of news pieces. We also advise clients on threats of actions, responses to police complaints, strategies during governmental search and seizure actions, and provide training on content issues.
Entertainment: We have advised on the grant of film options, assignment of filming rights, product placement, engaging celebrities for campaigns, and have represented actors, entertainers, directors, and showrunners on their contracts with production houses and talent management agencies.
Art: The Firm works with leading Indian art galleries on matters like provenance checks, publication of books with copyrighted works, and consignment and sale of art.
The Firm also acts on transactional matters in the TMT space.
