Overview of the practice
Norton Rose Fulbright’s South African antitrust and competition team is highly experienced in high-profile, complex antitrust matters, and are recognised for our experience in contentious mergers and cartels. Offering a broad practice, we advise on competition law issues for a diversity of prominent clients in the telecommunications and information technology; banking; petroleum and gas; mining; manufacturing; agricultural; construction and insurance sectors.
In 2020, our African competition law team dealt with a number of COVID-19 complaints and concerns, including concerns relating to the COVID-19 regulations in respect of excessive pricing for certain essential goods. More of information on COVID19 implications can be found at

We are well regarded for our ability to effectively respond to dawn raids, however the competition authorities did not conduct any dawn raids during the relevant period.
This year, our African competition law team continued to deal with a number of high profile, complex cartel complaints, including the Competition Commission’s complaints about alleged collusion in forex trading (for Barclays); the paper packaging industry (for New Era); the edible oils industry (for Wilmar); the meat industry (for Chalmar) and the self-referred price fixing complaints in the medical sector (for the Council for Medical Schemes).
