The ESG team in Spain is part of a global pioneering ESG practice with deep expertise spanning international contentious and non-contentious practices. The team advises public entities, corporates, investors, lenders, and civil society organisations on concerns across the complete ESG landscape. Their offering includes legal advice regarding climate change, sustainable and green finance, business and human rights, impact investment, corporate governance, reporting and disclosures, the development of ESG-related legislation and policy, due diligence procedures, insurance, diversity and inclusion, local community management, health and safety, and crisis management.
The Spanish team is led by partner Iria Calviño, who was recently named regional co-head of ESG in EMEA, together with Heike Schmidt. Alongside Iria, the Spanish office has also recently launched the ESG Academic Committee, formed by academic consultants Antonio Pastor and Javier Guillén. Supporting the team is senior associate Leonie Timmers, who is fully dedicated to the ESG hub. The strategic approach is further supported by a comprehensive set of policies, engagement and training, as well as reporting and benchmarking. The firm does more than just advise clients on ESG-related matters; it has also developed its own responsible business practices, including Life@HSF, work-life balance, net-zero strategy, and sustainability across its actions.
