Our core business is the provision of commercial, legal and dispute resolution advice for local and international companies and joint ventures engaged on major construction and engineering projects in the Gulf – particularly, the Sultanate of Oman; and for GCC-based companies involved in projects elsewhere in the world.
Our clients include local, UK and European contractors and engineers engaged on major energy and infrastructure projects – particularly in the roads, water, waste water, oil & gas, and aviation sectors.
The department was started by its founding members – Ian Radford and Edward Butler. Both are very experienced international construction lawyers, who previously worked at leading international law firms, with extensive experience of major projects in Oman and elsewhere in the GCC.
Most of the contracts we work on are based on FIDIC, ICE, NEC and IChemE and other standard forms. Some arbitrations are governed by institutional rules – ICC, UNCITRAL, LCIA – but others are governed solely by local arbitration law.
Input on Omani and related civil law is provided by the long-established ‘local’ partners and lawyers of Hamad Al Sharji Peter Mansour & Co, who also handle ancillary matters in the local courts, such as the enforcement of arbitration awards; but the heart of our business is our expertise in international construction and engineering law and arbitration.
