What the team is known for

GPW is involved in a series of complex disputes, supporting litigation and arbitration proceedings on behalf of sovereign entities, corporations, financial institutions, law firms and individuals. The firm is a longstanding player in the UK market, and its investigative approach is underpinned by years of practical experience in gathering evidence to support legal claims.

Strengths

"GPW are very good when it comes to Russia, Ukraine and CIS generally. The team has very strong local linguistic capabilities, very good sources on the ground there, and an advantage of GPW is they can just get on a plane and go if you need it."

"GPW are great for asset recovery, looking for people or companies and just bespoke intelligence generally. I find that they understand very quickly what we're trying to achieve, there's no starting from scratch. I've always felt that they'll get you the answer one way or another; even if they don't know immediately, they'll figure it out."

Notable practitioners

Sebastian Neave is an associate director in the disputes consulting practice in GPW's London office. Neave's experience in intelligence relates most specifically to Russia and the CIS region. He advises clients on complex disputes involving fraud, asset recovery and a range of cross-border litigation and arbitration claims.

Neave is highly respected and well recognised among his investigative peers, particularly for his expertise in Russia. "Seb studied Russian and is fluent in its language," says a lawyer; "he's got extremely good knowledge of not just the Russian investigations sphere but of Russian politics and the wider picture of the region." Another interviewee adds: "I know Seb and rate him highly for any Russia-related work. I'd probably go to him first for an issue in that part of the world."
