The department specialises in cases of disrepair and unlawful eviction cases. The team offers representation in a wide range of other social housing matters, including homelessness matters, succession for tenants, neighbourhood disputes against local authorities, representation in various disputes, appeals, and judicial reviews.

The department has a significant presence in County Court Possession Duty Schemes enabling the team to specialise in defending tenants in possession and unlawful eviction cases on a weekly basis.

The team has also developed a niche expertise in handling Equality Act defence cases, enabling a number of vulnerable clients to be assisted with their housing matters through the means of serving Equality Act defences.

Many of the clients represented by the team are vulnerable, including those with learning difficulties, terminal illnesses, severe mental health conditions, and victims of torture, trafficking or domestic violence. The team has the expertise required to assist such vulnerable clients and as such a variety of sources refer clients to the team, these include community organisations, domestic violence units, airports, prisons, detention centres, interpreters, and other law centres.
