Specializations

The Intellectual Property Department of the Firm is mainly engaged in providing legal advice on registration of trademarks, patents and industrial designs across several sectors, advising on transactional IP matters, such as due diligence, preparation of licensing/assignment agreements and commercialization. The Department was involved in the first registration of 3D international trademarks in Sri Lanka.


The team has a wealth of experience representing both domestic and international clients in contentious matters, including trade mark infringement and opposition injunctions and litigation and has succeeded in many inquiries at the National Intellectual Property Office against the refusals and conditional acceptance of its clients’ trademarks.

Work Highlights

Recent work highlights of the Department include assisting Perera and Sons Bakers (Private) Limited on the protection of its trademarks under the Madrid System and against infringement of its trademarks in Australia and representing Printcare PLC in litigation involving infringement of its copyrights.
