The department handles large, complex commercial disputes in cross-border litigation and arbitration matters, and multi-jurisdictional and parallel proceedings, section 1728 actions, particularly between parties in the U.S. and Latin America involving sovereign owned or government related entities in federal court.
• Representation of public officials, financial institutions, multinational companies and HNWI in both civil and commercial disputes, including shareholder and intellectual property disputes, contracts, sovereign trade, commerce, finance, matters of defamation & allegations of financial fraud.
• Recognized by clients and competitors for its willingness to take on very complex, unpopular and sensitive commercial and asset recovery cases with jurisdictional and venue challenges with significant criminal overtones and exposure.
• Litigation and arbitration against multinational companies, such as representing CAPA, Driven/Nodus Bank, financial institutions, ex-President of Panama Ricardo Martinelli, Colombian Air Force, Dubai Islamic Bank, PEMEX, the Board of Directors of PDVSA/Ad Hoc (opposition government of Venezuela), assisting IDB in Latin America.
• The litigation team helps clients navigate ex-parte injunctive orders, asset seizures, executive orders and proclamations, legislative, legal, trade, and regulatory waters worldwide to avoid business interruption and multidistrict litigation.
