Bingham Greenebaum Doll is "a very strong firm with good lawyers," according to one local attorney, and another says the "trusts and estates group is very good - I think they do a good job." The teamoffers high net worth individuals and families advice on tax and estate planning and inter-generational wealth and business transfers.

"They are experts in complex trusts situations and they are experienced - their expertise is a key reason we use them. They deliver good customer service and that is what makes us keep coming back," says a source, adding: "One way they are different is the fact that they are far more efficient in terms of the amount of time required to complete the project. They work quickly and efficiently." Another interviewee says: "The depth of their knowledge and understanding sets them apart from others in the market."

Notable practitioners

John Lueken chairs the firm's estate planning department and has an accounting background. "He was a CPA, so he speaks the same language as we do; this makes it easier to co-ordinate," notes an interviewee, who adds that "he is really a great client advocate, he tries to understand the client and their situation. He's very invested and able to relate to them." Another source says: "He can identify issues, explain things clearly to the client and execute plans smoothly. He is unlike many lawyers I have worked with. We work with lawyers across the country and we haven't found anyone as smooth as John Lueken."

John Cummins "has everyone's respect and is almost an icon for trusts and estates matters," observes a source, and another says that "he is the smartest guy I know in Kentucky." A fellow T&E attorney highlights Cummins for his "sophisticated practice" and adds: "His grasp of estate planning concepts at a deep level lets him apply things in traditional and non-traditional ways to accomplish client goals. His breadth of knowledge is sensational, especially for charitable planning and estate and gift tax planning. He is so intelligent, a very impressive man."

Mark Oppenheimer assists wealthy clients with estate and business succession planning, estate administration and charitable planning matters. One interviewee remarks that they are "especially impressed by Mark," explaining: "In addition to the legal aspects, which are a requirement, he has an understanding of the personal aspects that impact the client and are important to consider in making a trusts and estates arrangement. He is very good. His bedside manner is incredible."
