We provide specialized legal and strategic advice on merger control notifications, antitrust investigations involving cartel conduct, vertical restraints, and abuse of dominance, as well as competition law compliance programs. We also assist clients in assessing and mitigating legal and regulatory risks arising from competition law and related regulatory frameworks.
Our clients include leading domestic and multinational companies with operations in Costa Rica. We also provide support to in-house legal teams and collaborate with other law firms on competition law matters.
Among our most notable recent engagements, we served as one of the lead competition law advisers in the sale of FIFCO's food, beverage, and retail businesses to Heineken, completed in 2025 and widely regarded as the largest transaction in Costa Rican history.
Our Head of Department, Alan Thompson, has extensive experience in regulatory and competition law matters. His previous appointments include serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the General Superintendency of Financial Entities (SUGEF) and as a Commissioner of the Competition Authority (COPROCOM). He is also an Adjunct Professor of Competition Law in graduate-level programs and holds a specialization in Competition Law from the Carlos III University of Madrid.
