Ballard Spahr’s Intellectual Property Department provides a full range of services, from patent prosecution and trademark clearance to strategic IP counseling and full-scale litigation. Our Atlanta-based team helps some of the best-known businesses, universities, and research institutions develop, commercialize, enforce, and defend their intellectual property assets. Additionally, our attorneys were some of the first in the country to file Inter Partes Review (IPR) cases.

  • Our IP litigators represent clients in every type of IP dispute, including patent, trademark, trade dress, domain name, copyright, trade secret, and right-of-publicity litigation. Our attorneys have litigated more than 100 complex matters in federal and state courts, the International Trade Commission, and the U.S. Patent Office Patent (PTAB) and Trademark (TTAB) Trial and Appeal Boards, as well as on appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
  • Our patent professionals, many of whom hold advanced degrees, are fluent in all aspects of U.S. and foreign patent prosecution. With emphasis in the chemical, biotechnology, electrical, mechanical technologies (including medical device and ornamental design), nanotechnology, pharmaceutical, and software areas, our patent practice has filed more than 6,000 patents in more than 80 countries since 2005.
