Marval advises Adecoagro in the Acquisition of a 50% stake in Profertil from Nutrien Ltd.

Marval O’Farrell Mairal advised Adecoagro and Asociación de Cooperativas Argentinas Coop. Ltda. (ACA) on the execution of an agreement for the joint acquisition of a 50% equity interest in Profertil, South America’s leading producer of granular urea, for approximately USD 600 million. The acquired stake was previously held by Nutrien Ltd.

Adecoagro is one of South America’s leading agribusiness companies, operating in Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay, with a focus on sustainable food production and renewable energy.

Profertil, whose industrial plant is located in Bahía Blanca, ranks among the world’s most efficient producers of urea and ammonia, supplying nearly 60% of Argentina’s domestic demand for fertilizers essential to extensive crop production.

This strategic transaction will enable Adecoagro and ACA to further strengthen their agro-industrial integration, enhance sector competitiveness, and contribute to the sustainable development of the agricultural value chain.
