The outlook for the residential property market in France is generally regarded as being optimistic and France continues to attract strong interest from international investors including British buyers who are looking to have their own "Chez Moi" in France.

Despite a decrease of 18% between 2016 and 2017, British buyers of French property are still in first place when compared against other foreign nationals purchasing in France, according to the latest edition of the BNP Paribas report "Investing and Living Abroad – The Market for Foreign Non-Resident Buyers in France / 2018".

This was still the case despite BNP reporting that there was a marked downturn in the number of transactions by non-resident British buyers. Not surprisingly perhaps, the number of transactions by British nationals resident in France actually increased over the same period.

The prospects for the property market in France are seen as encouraging with purchasing power for buyers in France historically high in 2018 mainly due to the fall in interest rates since 2007.

Non-resident British buyers are recorded still as being most prevalent in the Rhone-Alpes region, Aquitaine, Limousin and Poitou-Charentes. This can be compared with our own experience where we are most likely to be asked to assist clients purchasing in these regions alongside Paris and Provence-Alpes-Cotes d'Azur.
