In a move that further strengthens the firm’s market-leading Structured & Warehouse Finance platform, Alston & Bird announced today the addition of Andi Mandell as a partner in its Federal & International Tax Group in New York.

“Andi’s deep industry knowledge, technical expertise, and commercial perspective enhance our offering to clients who turn to Alston & Bird for sophisticated advice on the most complex structured finance and securitization transactions,” said partner Scott Harty, chair of the firm’s Tax Department. “Our clients continue to face an increasingly dynamic marketplace requiring thought leadership and an ability to adapt to market trends. Andi’s addition to the team ensures that we continue to meet the needs of our clients and remain at the forefront of these transactions.”

Consistently recognized among the top lawyers in her field, Andi brings deep tax experience handling issues related to structured finance, securitization, and fund formation across a broad spectrum of asset classes, including consumer loans, student loans, credit card receivables, litigation finance, life settlement, structured settlements, and timeshare loans.

Securitization industry clients seek Andi’s advice on transactions involving residential and commercial mortgage-backed securities and real estate finance matters. Her experience spans REO-to-retail financings, servicing advance facilities, debt repackaging, securitization of nonperforming and reperforming mortgage loans, resecuritizations, distressed asset funds, and MSR purchases and sales and securitizations. In addition, Andi advises tax-exempt entities, REITs, hedge funds, and private equity firms on tax matters related to finance and investment platforms.

Earlier in her career, Andi served as an executive vice president at Carrington Capital Management, where she led and managed the firm’s tax function.

She has previously served on the Structured Finance Association (SFA) board and currently chairs the SFA Tax Policy Committee. Andi is also a member of the Gary Sinise Foundation board of directors.

“Our market-leading platform serves virtually every market participant in the industry, and we are excited to continue growing and building on our existing securitization tax offerings,” Tara Castillo, who co-leads Alston & Bird’s Finance Group. “Joining forces with a highly regarded and seasoned practitioner of Andi’s caliber will build further momentum as our team continues to actively advise clients on complex and innovative structures.”

“Alston & Bird’s tax platform aligns with the needs of investment managers and sponsors, which makes the firm a fantastic fit for this thrilling next chapter of my career,” said Andi. “The firm’s collaborative culture, with a rigorous focus on providing the very best legal advice and excellent service, energizes me to hit the ground running.”
