If you've so far approached the AI act like the three wise monkeys - see nothing, hear nothing and say nothing, it's the looming deadline that should spur every procrastinator into action.
For, from 2 February 2025, the first obligations come into force:
AI Literacy
Employers who provide or use AI systems should ensure that their employees have a sufficient level of AI literacy. Put simply and practically, you should train employees who are involved in operating or using AI systems as part of their job. The purpose is to raise employee awareness of AI, its risks and the potential harm it can cause.
Prohibited practices using AI
The Act provides a list of prohibited practices that use artificial intelligence in various fields. For example, the use of AI systems capable of inferring employees' emotions will be prohibited in the workplace (except for health or safety reasons). So, as a first step, assess your AI systems and see if they comply with the new regulation.
Now what?
Getting your compliance measures right and managing the risks accordingly is key to meeting the new obligations. Find out more about the new obligations under the AI Act and the recommended steps for implementing them in our next posts.
