Scott Hofer focuses his practice on bad faith and extra-contractual insurance claims, insurance coverage across all lines, complex commercial and business litigation, legal malpractice defense and matters involving the sports industry. He represents insurers in high-stakes disputes involving coverage and alleged bad faith, and he has extensive experience litigating complex business and professional liability cases. His work often includes navigating multifaceted legal and regulatory issues on behalf of insurance carriers and other institutional clients.
Scott Hofer is actively involved in several leading legal organizations. He is a member of the American College of Coverage Counsel and the American Board of Trial Advocates, where he currently serves as Missouri/Kansas president for the 2025-2027 term and has been a member of the Missouri/Kansas board of directors since 2020. He is also a member of the International Society of Barristers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel. Scott is a member of DRI and ALFA International, where he serves on the steering committee for the Insurance Practice Group. He is also a longtime member of the Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers and served on its board of directors from 2002 to 2008.
Scott represents a range of clients across various industries, including AIG, Chubb, Farmers, Penske, the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs and Major League Soccer, among others.
Scott is licensed to practice in state and federal courts in Missouri, Kansas, Illinois and Oklahoma, as well as in the Missouri, Kansas and Illinois Courts of Appeals and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Circuits.
Scott has extensive trial and appellate experience across a broad range of civil matters. At trial, he has represented clients in complex cases involving commercial disputes, insurance coverage and defense, and personal injury defense across various jurisdictions in Missouri and Kansas. On appeal, Scott has handled cases in state appellate courts as well as federal appellate courts, including the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Circuits. His appellate work covers insurance bad faith, commercial litigation, personal injury and related areas.
