Practice Areas

Piaras is Partner and Head of Banking & Finance and is also Co-Head of the Financial Services Sector Group.

Piaras' practice focuses on acquisition finance, cash flow, asset-based lending, real estate & development finance (with a particular focus on the residential, healthcare and alternative asset sectors), project/infrastructure funding as well as general secured and unsecured lending transactions. He also has extensive experience in relation to restructuring, bankrupticies, workouts and pre-enforcement strategies for secured creditors. He has also acted on a number of loan portfolios sales.

His clients include both Irish and international financial institutions and agencies, in addition to specialised lenders. Piaras has extensive experience in advising large corporates, PLCs, public bodies, institutional firms, qualifying investor funds (QIAIFs), ICAVS, unit trusts and other regulated entities on high-value lending transactions in addition to complex intercreditor arrangements.

Personal

Piaras is also a member of the board of directors of the Irish mental health charity Aware.

Work Highlights

Key highlights include advising:

- an international bank on the provision of finance to a bankruptcy remote Irish limited partnership in relation to the acquisition of a substantial residential PRS scheme in Dublin

- a domestic 'pillar' bank in connection with its funding of a portfolio of over 90 warehouse and logistics properties throughout Ireland

- a lender in connection with the financing of a portfolio of over 150 residential units to be used by an approved housing body for social housing purposes

- a real estate development company on a €250m syndicated facility advanced to it in relation to a marquee development in central Dublin comprising of residential, commercial and retail units

- a German infrastructure lender in connection with the funding of early stage solar project located in Ireland and the United Kingdom
