Career

Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (Lawyer, Cum Laude, 1982); University of Paris 2 (Civil Law Specialisation, with honours, 1986; Doctoral Studies, with honours, 1988). Universidad Central de Venezuela. Joined Mendoza Palacios (1982), Partner (1995).

Carlos Eduardo Acedo taught Contractual Liability and Torts in the Postgraduate Courses of Commercial Law at the Central University of Venezuela from 1989 to 1992; and has often given conference talks on legal subjects, in Venezuela and abroad.

Carlos Eduardo Acedo was an Auxiliary Lawyer of the Political and Administrative Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice from 1991 to 1994; and, as such, prepared the drafts of several Supreme Court of Justice decisions and dissenting opinions, for Justice Luis Henrique Farías Mata. Carlos Eduardo Acedo was an ad honorem Legal Assistant to the Minister of Finance from 1994 to 1995, under Minister Julio Sosa Rodríguez.

Carlos Eduardo Acedo is one of the 35 members (individuos de número), appointed for life, of the Academy of Social and Political Sciences, which is the most prestigious body of lawyers of Venezuela, created by law more than one hundred years ago.

Member: National Society of Doctors in Law (France); Venezuela-USA Businessmen Council (CEVEU);Venezuelan Society of Commercial Law; French-Venezuelan Association of Attorneys (Iurisfraven). Director: Private Law Association. Arbitrator: Caracas Chamber and CEDCA; former member of the Consultive Council of CEDCA (Venamcham). Former Director and Vice-president of the Venezuelan Insurance Law Association, AVEDESE (1998-2011). Former Director of Fundación Venezolana contra la Parálisis Infantil.

Carlos Eduardo Acedo is, since 2011, a member of the board of directors of Munchener de Venezuela, C.A. (the local Munich Re company). Former Director of three related insurance companies: Seguros Canaima, Seguros Orinoco and La Continental de Seguros, from 1988 to 2001.

Carlos Eduardo Acedo’s books are: the Role of Negligence in Tortious Liability in Venezuelan Law Compared to French and Italian Law (doctoral thesis at the University of Paris II); Insurance Law Topics (coauthored with Manuel Acedo Mendoza); and Abusive Clauses and Standard-Form Contracts (upon incorporation at the Academy of Social and Political Sciences).
