Overview

Holt Baker was founded in 2016 with a simple mission - to offer businesses access to innovative, high-quality legal and finance support at a very competitive cost. Drawing together these two regulated services, clients can access both together or separately, depending on the stage and needs of their business. This unique structure has supported many clients, particularly SMEs, where a holistic approach is key. Each of the legal and finance arms have a deep understanding of the other. So, opportunities are not missed and work is not duplicated. One client has said: “They waste no time in getting to the heart of the matter ….it's so valuable to be able to deal with legal, commercial and finance in a single conversation." This unique structure was recognised by the Legal Innovation Awards two years running.

Holt Baker’s set up is lean and agile, incorporating efficiencies wherever possible to ensure that our support is accessible to a range of businesses – from start-ups, to SMEs and beyond.

Fractional GC / legal counsel

Holt Baker was amongst the first to offer a completely flexible outsourced / fractional in-house legal counsel / GC resource to its clients. We saw businesses either disappointed with, or unable to afford, expensive legal advice. As a result, business and founders were taking on unnecessary risk and missing key opportunities. Our goal is to be a true extension of our client’s teams - spotting and mitigating risks, and exploiting assets and rights. All lawyers in the team and our specialist network have solid senior in-house experience, understanding the need to take a commercial and pragmatic approach to support business’ in achieving their objectives. Clients have used this resource to support different phases of their growth - from negotiating and formalising supply chains, regulatory compliance, brand protection and IP exploitation, key licence agreements, rolling out business-wide training etc. City trained, lawyers have extremely high standards and work ethic.

Lawyers

The legal arm of Holt Baker was established and is managed by Amy Holt. Amy acts as a board advisor and a NED, after completing the Financial Times’ NED Diploma. Rob Foote has played a key role in Holt Baker’s growth, managing several core client relationships. Alex Chater manages our real estate matters and leads on large real estate projects. Holt Baker has carefully curated a strong network of specialists who are deployed when needed to fulfil a client’s objectives, and who share the firm’s values and approach.

Holt Baker advises across a range of practice areas including commercial contracts, intellectual property, data protection, employment - and recently, real estate and corporate. Strong in-house experience means that we take a ‘can-do’ approach, helping clients to identify where the key risks are and how those risks can be mitigated in a cost-effective way.

Holt Baker has a particular focus on commercial contracts, including agreements for supply of goods/services, complex IT licensing agreements with AI aspects, manufacturing and co-development agreements, complex cross border supply chain, licence and assignment, talent and sponsorship agreements.

Holt Baker has advised across a wide range of sectors including tech / AI, PR, marketing and advertising, packaging, consumer, pharmaceuticals, arts, and property.
