Chambers Global 2024 Launches

Chambers and Partners wishes to thank all the lawyers and client referees who gave up their time to speak with us during the research for Chambers Global 2024. Behind the scenes, our research team is busy putting the finishing touches to this edition, ready for the launch, which will take place on February 15.

Law firms can now upload their submissions for Chambers Global 2025 – the research for which will commence in March 2024. To check the submission deadline(s) that are relevant to your team, please use our online research schedule. Law firms wishing to make submissions can download the templates for submission documents and referee spreadsheets from the guidelines page of our website.

Increase in Referee Numbers for Key Jurisdictions in Africa, the Middle East and Caribbean

Looking ahead, law firms should be aware of a few changes to our research methodology. In a handful of key jurisdictions, the maximum number of referees a law firm can provide per practice area is increasing from 20 to 30, but with a maximum of 5 referees per lawyer. This change will take effect immediately and applies to:

  • The Cayman Islands
  • Israel
  • Kenya
  • Nigeria
  • South Africa
  • United Arab Emirates

We have made this change in an effort to deepen and broaden our coverage of these dynamic and fast-evolving markets. For all other jurisdictions in these regions, the referee limit remains 20 per firm, per practice area; researchers will not contact more than this. However, the limit for other countries may be reviewed in the future.

New sections in Chambers Global 2025

We have significantly expanded our coverage for both Global International Capabilities (GIC) and Africa, Middle East, Caribbean and Offshore (AMECO). Law firms are now able to provide submissions for several new areas.

New AMECO sections:

  • French Caribbean General Business Law (covering French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy)
  • Israel Environment
  • Israel Investment Funds
  • Kenya Competition
  • Nigeria Competition
  • Nigeria Tax

  • UAE Regulatory: Government & Public Affairs (including sub-tables for Regulatory: Financial Services and Regulatory: Competition)
  • UAE Venture Capital & Emerging Companies

New GIC sections

Global Market Leaders - Commercial Contracts. The submission deadline for this new section will be April 17, 2024.

Global Market Leaders – Artificial Intelligence. The submission deadline for this section will be March 13, 2024). Some of the reasons behind the introduction of this new section are discussed in a recent article by Tanya Leila Shaar.

There are also two new International & Cross-Border Capabilities tables, for North Africa-Wide and West Africa-Wide. These tables will not accept submissions. Instead, we will use the information gathered at the local country level.

Global: Multi-Jurisdictional – Real Estate. This table will not accept submissions. Instead, we will use the information gathered at the local country level, as well as wider ranking data.

Renamed or Expanded Sections

Regular users of the directory will be aware of our ongoing efforts to deepen our coverage of the legal market, particularly in key global economies. As such, there are several AMECO sections where we have taken the decision to rename the existing ranking tables.

Egypt Dispute Resolution. Whereas firms were previously advised to provide a single submission detailing both arbitration and litigation work, there are now two separate sections titled Dispute Resolution: Arbitration and Dispute Resolution: Litigation. Law firms are encouraged to provide submissions and referee spreadsheets for both sections.

Kenya Tax. This table now includes department rankings, in addition to the existing table for ranked lawyers.

Mauritius General Business Law. This table is now called Mauritius Corporate/Commercial. Mauritius Dispute Resolution is now its own standalone section.

The table previously known as UAE Corporate/Commercial and Commercial Contracts has been simplified to UAE Commercial Contracts.

The scope of UAE Corporate Investigations has been formally expanded to include corporate compliance (e.g. in regard to sanctions). The section is now called Corporate Compliance & Investigations.

For submissions to Chambers Global 2025, the section previously known as UAE Shipping is now called UAE Transportation; the remit of this table has been expanded so that aviation work is also now relevant. (Note that section will still be called UAE Shipping in Chambers Global 2024.)
