Firm Overview

Paxus LLP is a leading boutique law firm dedicated to public international law, international arbitration, and business and human rights.

An accomplished team of international lawyers, we provide strategy, due diligence and dispute resolution services to multinational corporations, financial institutions and national governments, focusing on issues at the intersection of business and human rights. We integrate analysis of law, public policy, social science and markets to deliver high-quality legal advice and representation with purpose. Our offering is enriched by our diversity of backgrounds and experience in both the private and public sectors and our strength in international and comparative law.

Our lawyers have a track record of success acting in cutting edge cross-border disputes involving high-value commercial issues, as well as highly sensitive environmental, social and governance issues. We also advise on the full range of issues arising under public international law.

Main Areas of Practice

Public international law

Public and private sector entities involved in transnational business activity seek advice and representation from Paxus on matters arising under international law.

We regularly advise on dispute resolution between foreign investors and host States, or between two or more States. We design winning strategies to address the complex and far-reaching effects on global business activity of public and private international law, and cross-border regulation and enforcement initiatives.

International arbitration

We act as counsel to corporations and sovereign States in complex, high value and critical international commercial and investment arbitrations. We are experienced under all the major arbitration rules, with a wide range of industries and with a diverse set of countries.

We have particular experience with disputes involving the energy and mining sectors, Latin America and Africa, and environmental, social and governance issues.

Business and Human rights

Paxus provides strategy, due diligence and dispute resolution services with respect to business and human rights and social sustainability matters. We help multinational corporations and financial institutions develop responsible business practices and respond to emerging regulatory and litigation risks associated with national and international human rights, humanitarian and environmental law instruments.

We have experience with business and human rights related international arbitration and transnational tort litigation, as well as non-judicial proceedings and grievance mechanisms.

Clients

With an office in London and team members drawn from Europe, the United States, Latin America, Africa and Asia, Paxus has a global reach and acts for States, private entities and international organisations in contentious and advisory matters all over the world.

Much of the firm’s work is highly confidential. However, recent highlights of team members’ work that can be identified include: representing the Republic of Peru in an investment treaty arbitration; advising a group of leading global financial institutions on human rights due diligence with respect to climate transition plans; conducting a human rights risk assessment for an oil and gas company with operations in the United States and Africa; designing and establishing an operational level grievance mechanism for a mining company; and advising on public and private international law matters in the context of a transnational tort litigation.
