Superyacht Construction:
The firm has significant expertise acting for both shipyards and purchasers of new build superyachts from the construction and delivery of semi-custom yachts of 30 metres in length, through to fully custom, ice class, expedition yachts of more than 140 metres. In addition to drafting and negotiating yacht build contracts, the firm routinely negotiates the wider suite of agreements that go hand in hand with superyacht construction including superyacht design agreements, owners’ outfitting supply agreements, refund and performance guarantees and project management agreements, as well as advising on the delivery of superyachts and post-build warranty matters.

Superyacht Sale & Purchase & Private Jet Sale and Purchase:
The firm is frequently instructed to act for buyers and sellers of superyachts and private jets, helicopters tenders and support yachts. The partners have been involved in the acquisition of yachts and jets of all types of sizes as well as the sale and purchase of yacht and jet owning corporate entities and have a rich contact book of third-party industry professionals including surveyors, insurance brokers and corporate service providers who they are pleased to make introductions to.

Superyacht & Jet Finance:
Hannaford Turner’s partners are widely acknowledged for their expertise in asset finance work, acting for both borrowers and lenders in the UK and internationally. The firm has long established relationships with foreign legal advisors, enabling them to seamlessly manage the provision of foreign legal advice on transactions with an international element.

Ownership Structuring and Restructuring & Flagging/Registration:
The firm advises clients, in conjunction with foreign lawyers and/or corporate service providers, on existing ownership structures and (where required) the establishment of new ownership structures for yachts and private jets taking into account the intended use of the assets and the particular circumstances of the owner. The firm also regularly provides advice to clients on the flagging and registration of yachts and jets and, as a result, the firm has longstanding relationships with the leading flag registration authorities around the world.

Operational Advice:
Clients frequently turn to Hannaford Turner to provide pragmatic, timely and creative advice and solutions to a wide range of issues relating to the ownership and operation of superyachts and other luxury assets, from issues such as the carriage of firearms onboard yachts through to cruising in remote jurisdictions.

Refit & Repair Projects:
The firm routinely handles yacht refit and conversion contracts and it has worked with many of the leading refit shipyards.

Dispute Resolution (Litigation & Arbitration):
In addition to their broad transactional experience, the team are adept at resolving a broad variety of superyacht and luxury asset related disputes and regularly represent clients in litigation before the English courts and in arbitration under a variety of rules including the LMAA (London Maritime Arbitrators Association).
