Stephen Fietta KC, principal and founder of Fietta LLP, is one of the leading specialist public international lawyers in private practice. He has counselled States, international organisations and private clients on a broad range of PIL issues over the past 20 years. He has advised in connection with disputes heard before the ICJ, ITLOS, ECHR, CJEU and arbitral tribunals operating under (among others) the ICSID, UNCLOS, UNCITRAL, PCA and SCC Rules. He is particularly active in international investment disputes and maritime boundary disputes and has won some of the largest investment arbitration awards of recent years. He also has an extensive PIL advisory practice and regularly conducts training for government lawyers around the world. Stephen is a Visiting Senior Lecturer at King’s College, London, where he lectures on international sovereignty, maritime delimitation and environmental disputes.
Publications
Stephen has published widely on various public international law and international arbitration topics. He was awarded the Smit-Lowenfeld Prize for best article (co-authored by Dr James Upcher) globally in the field of international arbitration and co-authored (with Dr Robin Cleverly) A Practitioner’s Guide to Maritime Boundary Delimitation (OUP, published March 2016), which has subsequently been cited before both the ICJ and ITLOS.
