Robert Karlsson

Robert leads Magnusson’s banking & finance team and regularly advises a number of banks, investment firms, and fund companies in a wide range of financial regulatory matters.

Before joining Magnusson, Robert served as deputy executive director at the Swedish FSA’s consumer protection operations, which consist of nearly 100 employees with responsibility for the supervision and regulatory enforcement covering all financial institutions on the Swedish market. Prior to that, Robert also headed the Swedish FSA’s Securities Market Law Department and its Capital Markets Law Division.

Robert has profound knowledge of key European legislation, such as the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive and the Insurance Distribution Directive after having served as chairman of the Swedish FSA’s steering groups for the implementation of these directives. Robert was also actively participating in ESMA’s regulatory work to draft technical advice and technical standards under the revised Markets in Financial Instruments Directive.
