W. Raley Alford, III, is a member of the New Orleans law firm of Stanley Reuter Thornton Alford LLC, where he has practiced since 2003. Mr. Alford represents public utilities and other clients in a variety of matters, including commercial and tort litigation, regulatory proceedings, appeals, and contract and property issues. Representative cases include class and mass-tort actions, shareholder litigation, Section 1983 litigation, construction disputes, expropriation actions, securities actions, antitrust and unfair trade practice claims, utility rate and resource-certification proceedings, storm-cost securitization, and consumer litigation. Mr. Alford also counsels clients concerning regulatory compliance and general business issues.

Mr. Alford graduated from Louisiana State University summa cum laude with a degree in International Trade and Finance and minors in Economics and Spanish. He graduated Order of the Coif from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where he was a student research assistant to Professor Frank L. Maraist, a member of the Louisiana Law Review, and the recipient of the Vinson & Elkins Outstanding Law Review Casenote or Comment Award. After law school, Mr. Alford clerked for Judge James L. Dennis of the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals (2001-2003).
Mr. Alford served as President of the New Orleans Chapter of the Federal Bar Association for 2017-2018. He also served as a practitioner Co-Chair of the 2019 Biennial Federal Bench & Bar Conference of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
