Practice Areas
Oliver has appeared at every level of court in England and Wales from the Magistrates to the Supreme Court. He has a mixed police and medical law practice, encompassing all regulatory, civil and public law matters and inquests. His varied practice defending and presenting before disciplinary tribunals, representing both claimants and defendants in civil litigation and acting for families and large institutions in Inquests affords a broad yet detailed understanding of all aspects of litigation. He has built a reputation as an approachable and hard-working advocate.
Oliver undertakes all aspects of claimant and defendant clinical negligence work and represents both individuals and hospitals in the Court of Protection. He is a co-author of the book Medical Treatment: Decisions and the Law (MTDL).
In police regulatory work Oliver has developed a specialist practice presenting cases on behalf of Appropriate Authorities in misconduct proceedings and has appeared for the presenting side in cases against officers ranking from PC to Chief Constable. Oliver also has an established disciplinary and regulatory practice in the medical sphere, and regularly represents doctors and dentists in fitness to practise hearings in the GMC and GDC.
