Often instructed in the early stages of a criminal investigation prior to charge, Oliver is internationally recognised as an expert in crisis management.

He is sought after by those accused of the most serious criminality and frequently instructed to defend in cases with an international element and to advise UK nationals accused in other jurisdictions and facing extradition.

Recognised as a specialist in cases involving expert evidence, he defended in Operations Embossed (& Embossed 2) Estevan, Glassy, Bregwin, Rockrose and Oberon, the leading prosecutions arising from the compromise of the EncroChat encrypted telephone network.

Having appeared in the high-level challenges to EncroChat admissibility before the Court of Appeal Criminal Division (Atkinson & Ors), the Investigatory Powers Tribunal and Court of Appeal Civil Division (SF & Ors) Oliver has been asked to advise on EncroChat and SkyECC in multiple jurisdictions including Spain, The Netherlands, Norway The Balkans and UAE. He has appeared on a panel at the Permanent Representation of Germany to the EU Parliament to present on admissibility of encrypted communications (EncroChat & SkyECC) within the context of common EU standards for evidence.

Oliver is highly experienced in defending those accused of high value and complex criminal fraud including ‘carousel fraud’, income tax, timeshare boiler room and immigration fraud as well as cases of ‘insider trading’.

In addition to directors and company officers Oliver has experience in representing accountants and other financial professionals accused of wrongdoing including concealing the proceeds of crime.
