Mazlan has been in private law practice in the Maldives for the last 24 years working on a range of important assignments primarily relating to banking transactions, project finance, sales and acquisitions of resort hotels, representing international hotel operators, developers and financiers of luxury hotels and resorts. Mazlan is the managing partner of Mazlan & Murad Law Associates and is actively involved in corporate, commercial and banking law practice and specializes in commercial law. Mazlan has been advising banks, financial institutions, state enterprises and private sector in a wide variety of legal assignments. Mazlan maintains a heavy litigation portfolio whereby he represents clients in high profile court cases at the Supreme Court, High Court and subordinate courts (Civil Court, Magistrate Courts and Criminal Court).

Mazlan also maintains a keen academic interest and was the first full time local lecturer at the Faculty of Shari'ah & Law of the College of Higher Education now know as the Maldives National University (MNU). Mazlan has continued to be a visiting lecturer and had been a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the Faculty since 2005 and is the current chairman of the Board. He is well respected by his colleagues and students for his incisive lectures in jurisprudence, company law, law of contract, and law of tort. Mazlan had various portfolios in the executive committee of The Law Society of Maldives which was a non governmental organization registered to self govern the regulatory affairs of lawyers prior to the formation of the Bar Council of the Maldives. Mazlan has been a member of the Committee of Experts of Bar Council of the Maldives since 2021 which is comprised of eminent lawyers, law teachers and members of the judiciary, which advises the Bar Council on various aspects of the Bar Exam and the examinable subject areas.
