Career
Marco Cerrato is an Italian tax lawyer based in Milan. He was admitted to the Italian Bar in 1995 and to the Supreme Court in 2008. He holds an LL.M. in Tax from the London School of Economics and Political Science (1997) and a PhD in Tax Law from the University of Pavia (2000).
Since 1997, Marco has been with Maisto e Associati, where he became a partner in 2003.
Marco is the author of numerous publications on tax matters and is a frequent speaker at national and international tax conferences.
He has taught tax law at various institutions, including the Faculty of Law at LIUC University (Castellanza) from 2000 to 2022. Since 2021, he has been scientific co-director of the advanced training program on “Protection, Transmission and Management of Family Estates” organized by STEP Italy and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. He has been a lecturer and coordinator of the advanced course in “International Management of Family Wealth” at the International University of Monaco since 2023.
Marco has also served as advisor to the Italian government on tax policy. In 2015 and 2016, he was a member of the Committee of Experts on Tax and Economic Policy of the Presidency of the Italian Council of Ministers. In 2023, he was appointed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance as a member of the Technical Committee for the implementation of the Italian tax reform.
From 2020 to 2023, he served as Chairman of the Italian branch of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners). He is currently Deputy Chair of the STEP Europe Regional Committee and a member of the STEP Worldwide Policy Committee.
Since 2022, Marco has been serving as Coordinator of the Tax Committee of the Milan Bar Association.
