Luís Felipe Galante

Senior Partner at Escritório Jurídico Carbone, Luís Felipe Galante has 40 years of practice in shipping area. In non-contentious area he advises on a number of matters such as charter parties, bills of lading, shipbuilding contracts, offshore oil industry and regulatory aspects. In litigation he deals not only with court disputes (cargo claims, pollution cases, collisions, etc.) but also acts in arbitrations, either as lawyer or arbitrator. He is the President of Brazilian Maritime Law Association (ABDM) since 2017 and has been leading current efforts in the Brazilian Congress for modernization of national maritime law.

He graduated in 1979 in University of State of Rio de Janeiro and became partner of the firm in 1981, obtaining his Phd degree in Private Law in 1985. In 2013 Galante was recognized by an independent publication in Brazil (Análise Editorial) as being ranked among the 500 most prominent Brazilian lawyers in all areas and the leading professional in import & export law. He is Professor of Maritime Law and coordinator of the post-graduation course of maritime law by the University of State of Rio de Janeiro.
