His broad practice covers civil and contractual disputes, corporate commercial litigation, real estate, Indigenous law, construction, professional liability, employment law, arbitration, and public law matters. Recent work includes real estate disputes involving collapsed deals, fraud, misrepresentation of defects, ownership or border disputes, and certificates of pending litigation. In business disputes, Jimmy handles corporate governance matters, shareholder disputes, partnership and joint venture conflicts, director and officer liability, oppression claims, derivative actions, fraud, conspiracy, and securities issues. His debt collection practice focuses on loan agreements, promissory notes, and unpaid invoices. Additionally, he tackles construction law issues such as deficiency claims, cost overruns, delays, warranty claims, and builder’s liens, as well as commercial leasing matters including termination disputes, rental arrears, capital improvements, and material defects.
Jimmy also has specialized expertise in natural resources, energy, Indigenous law, and regulatory matters. His recent work in this area includes regulatory matters in renewables and clean energy technologies like hydrogen, providing strategic advice and representation to mining companies and Indigenous groups, and handling regulatory matters in electric and autonomous vehicles. He has also been involved in environmental and energy-related litigation, climate policy disputes, public utility matters, quasi-criminal liability, and environmental prosecutions, along with risk management and environmental regulatory compliance.
During his time at Queen’s University Law School, Jimmy received awards for academic excellence in trial advocacy and international trade law. Before pursuing law, he earned an Honours degree in geology from Dalhousie University and worked as a geologist and environmental scientist in the mining, oil and gas, and environmental sectors across British Columbia and Alberta. His passion for energy and mineral resources, combined with his deep understanding of the technical and economic challenges in those industries, is a hallmark of his practice.
